Jovelyn Binonwangan: Going the Extra Mile for a Veteran in Need
RN Jovelyn Binonwangan, a Case Manager with Goldbelt Glacier working at Yokosuka under Program Manager Jen Juliano on our Japan Navy contract, was recently nominated for a Daisy Award for her exceptional dedication to a patient in need.
For over seven months, Jovelyn supported a retired veteran living in Japan who faced serious health issues, financial hardship, and the responsibility of raising five children alone after the loss of his spouse. Due to his SOFA status, he had limited access to local resources, and his care needs exceeded what could be provided locally.
Jovelyn coordinated 13 local referrals before arranging a full transition of care to the U.S. She contacted more than a dozen stateside facilities, secured a placement in a veteran’s shelter, and arranged a space-available flight from Yokota. When mobility issues threatened his ability to board, she worked directly with terminal staff to ensure he could make the trip.
Thanks to her persistence and compassion, the patient is now safely stateside and receiving the support he needs. Jovelyn’s tireless efforts ensured that a vulnerable veteran received the care he deserved—a true example of going above and beyond.
